MS Health Officials report 14 New Cases of West Nile Virus

JACKSON, Miss. – Today the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reports 14 new human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) for 2012. The reported cases are in Adams, Calhoun, Clarke (2), Hinds (3), Jones,
Lamar, Lauderdale, Madison, Marion and Rankin (2) counties, bringing the state total for 2012 to 33 cases and one death.

In 2011, Mississippi had 52 WNV cases and five deaths. The MSDH only reports laboratory-confirmed cases to the public.

Of all the animals on earth, mosquitoes may very well pose the greatest threat to man’s health and existence. Diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, such as Malaria, West Nile virus, Yellow fever, Filariasis, Dengue fever and Encephalitis kill and debilitate millions of persons worldwide even with today’s advances in medicine. Even as a nuisance biter, they can have a major negative impact on a local economy by inhibiting recreational or work environments.

Once we kill existing adult mosquitoes, we treat the mosquito breeding sites on your property. The products we use either kill mosquitoes on contact or prevent mosquito larvae (the immature offspring that develop in water) from becoming adults. It’s the best of both worlds and the most effective proven control strategy.
Fischer’s mosquito prevention treatment program features a custom designed application system that has been proven effective in the worst environments in the world.
Fischer’s Environmental Mosquito Management System will include treating your property every 2 months to give you the best results possible.
Fischer’s treatment includes applying material around the perimeter of your home, in landscaped areas, along fences and in other places where mosquitoes are likely to be found. Once our program has treated your exterior environment, most of your mosquito populations gone within 24 hours and we will keep them gone.
The products we use are recommended for use around people, pets and plants with confidence. The larvicide product will not harm pets or birds, as it is specifically targeted toward mosquitoes.
